School History

Beacon of Hope Learning and Enrichment Center was established in May 2015 with a clear purpose: to create a safe, nurturing, and faith-centered environment where young children could learn, grow, and thrive. Founded by Mrs. Andrea Brown, the center was built on a passion for early childhood education, strong family partnerships, and meaningful community impact.

What began as a small childcare program has grown into a trusted early learning center serving families throughout Ridgeland and Jasper County, South Carolina. Over the past ten years, Beacon of Hope Learning and Enrichment Center has remained committed to providing high-quality care while adapting to the changing needs of children, families, and the broader educational landscape.

From its early years, Beacon of Hope participated in the South Carolina State-Funded First Steps 4K program, offering high-quality, publicly funded preschool education to eligible families. Through this partnership, the center supported early literacy, school readiness, and family engagement initiatives aligned with state standards.

After several successful years in the First Steps 4K program, Beacon of Hope intentionally transitioned to offering a private-pay 4K program. This transition allowed the center to continue serving families who desired a smaller, more personalized learning environment, featuring low student-to-teacher ratios, individualized instruction, and a strong focus on kindergarten readiness.

During the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Beacon of Hope Learning and Enrichment Center played a vital role in supporting families when traditional education systems were forced to close in-person classrooms. The center actively supported and partnered with families enrolled in Virtual Academy programs, providing supervision, instructional support, structured routines, and a safe learning environment for school-aged children.

Throughout its decade of service, Beacon of Hope Learning and Enrichment Center has maintained compliance with South Carolina DSS licensing standards, invested in staff training and professional development, and expanded its programs to serve infants, toddlers, preschool, and Pre-K students. The center has also enhanced learning experiences through participation in initiatives such as Grow Outdoors SC, promoting outdoor learning and nature-based exploration.

Community engagement remains a cornerstone of Beacon of Hope’s mission. The center continues to build strong partnerships with families, churches, and local organizations, hosting educational events, seasonal celebrations, and outreach opportunities that strengthen family involvement and community connection.

As Beacon of Hope Learning and Enrichment Center celebrates ten years of service, it looks ahead with a renewed commitment to excellence, growth, and innovation in early childhood education. Grounded in faith and guided by experience, the center remains dedicated to being a true beacon of hope for children and families—preparing young learners not only for school, but for life.
